ANTIQUE ARMS FROM AROUND THE WORLD: CZERNY'S JUNE 15th

A matched pair of Russian Dueling pistols is a great rarity and Czernys are offering a cased pair made in Tule by Alexey Babyakin on June 15th. Other rare lots included in the sale that span the glove and many varied historical epochs include an Ottoman 16th C. horse armor, A rare Philippine Moro helmet in the conquistador style, an English Presentation Dragoon saber by Knubley dated 1799, a highly decorated Tibetan broadsword and a 15th C. Venetian broadsword.

Sofe Designs next auction features a several outstanding collections of American civil war swords, including confederate examples as well as bowie knives. Other edged weapons include Rev war and Napoleonic examples as well as a selection or early British and Scottish examples. Pictured is a fine Ottoman wootz dagger mounted with coral, on of several Islamic lots.

AMOSKEAG AUCTION, FINE COLLECTOR ARMS: JUNE 1st

Amoskeag’s sale of June1st includes a wide variety of fine sporting and collector arms. Among the top lots are a Luger DWM 1902 carbine is superb condition, a fine Cased colt model 1861 revolver, a fine pair of Mediterranean flintlock pistols with Brunswick rifling, Confederate Fayetteville and Richmond army muskets and a cased Adams 1851 revolver retailed by Rigby Dublin, pictured.
 
Among the sporting arms offered are a Winchester model 21 skeet gun cased with two sets of barrels, a magazine sporting rifle by Joseph Lang in 375 H&H, a double hammer rifle by Cogswell & Harrison and a custom Winchester model 42 Pigeon grade skeet gun in .410. ANTIVITY PRAHA, ANTIQUES, ARMS AND ARMOUR, MAY 18TH

Antikvity Praha’s next auction in Prague includes a variety of select arms, armor and militaria lots. The sale includes antique and collectible firearms, edged weapons from the 16th to the 19th centuries, and elements of early European armour.  Carrying the highest estimate of 20,000 euro is a fine 16th C. German parade shield, embossed and chiseled, a detail of which is pictured.  Other armour lots in the sale include a Maximilian from close helmet, an officer’s lobstertail helmet and a brass mounted Napoleon III cuirass.

Among the guns in the sale are an inlaid wheelleock dual ignition sporting gun, a pair of LePage dueling or target pistols,  a North and Savage percussion revolving rifle and a custom engraved Colt single action revolver. ROCK ISLAND'S PREMIERE SALE, MAY 3RD

Described as “virtual superstar ..amongst an elite category of antique firearms “ is the pictured Colt Dragoon revolver engraved by G Young. It carries the highest estimate in Rock Island’s sale of May 3rd of 1.2 to 2 million dollars. Also known as the Milikin Colt, the gun was owned by Colonel John Minor Milikin of the 1st Ohio Volunteer cavalry and is a gem among desirable firearms. 

Other dramatic lots in the sale include an M47 Patton main battle tank, a Holland and Holland express double rifle, A Colt Model 1883 Navy Gatling gun, one of two offered, and a rare Colt AR15 prototype. There are 2084 lots in the sale in all price ranges and all areas of gun and military collecting interest.

SOTHEBY'S ISLAMIC ARMS, MAY 1ST

An Ottoman coral and turquoise set kilij is one of the sumptuous lots offered in Sotheby’s Islamic arts sale on May 1st. Topping the arms and armour lots in this sale is an 18th C  Ivory and mother of pearl stocked miquelet rifle, one of a small group of guns thought to have been used by the Ottoman imperial  guard. It carries and estimate of 35000stg -45000stg.  An example is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art collection.

Other lots in the sale include Mughal jade hilted khanjar daggers, a silver mounted saif, a French or Russian turquoise set kilij and a superb jeweled Sri Lankan Kastana. Click on the image for a link to the sale.

CZERNYS: FINE ANTIQUE ARMS AND ARMOUR,MARCH 30TH

A very rare pair of Dutch breech loading flintlock pistols is one of the rarer lots offered at Czerny’s on March 30th. American guns offered include a brass framed Henry rifle, an early 1873 Winchester, a Colt 1860 Army, a Colt 1878 DA "Alaskan" and a martially marked Colt percussion 1851 Navy revolver with London address.
 
The sale includes a rich assortment of "high art" arms from European, English, Indo-Persian, Asian and US backgrounds. Among the early European lots offered are several suits of armour, including a very attractive Italian cavalry half armour C. 1630. Other examples include a Brescian militia amour and a composite full armour in the Pisan style.
 
Among the many highly decorated Persian, Indo-Persian and Islamic arms offered are shamshirs, palas and kilij, as well as several gilded polouar swords. Greek, Ottoman and Balkan edged weapons are also represented, in addition to pistols and longarms, including silver mounted and cased examples.
 
The catalog has over 1000 lots and also covers the period up to WWI. It also includes uniforms, accouterments and medals. Click on an image for a link to the sale. 

LITTLE JOHNS COLLECTOR & FINE FIREARMS, MARCH 3rd 4th

A Colt Model 1877 Thunderer .41 caliber DA revolver with 5” barrel, factory engraved with panel scene, nickel finish, pearl grips, shipped to Shreve & Wolf San Francisco, Calif, July 5, 1886 is one of the nicer lots in Little Johns Upcoming sale of March 3rd and 4th.

Other lots in this two day sale include a rev war era Jaeger rifle with provenance, a superb Colt conversion of 1861 Navy to .38 caliber centerfire with Tiffany grips showing Civil War battle scenes, a matched pair of Boss 12ga vintage black powder cartridge shotguns, a fine high-art shotgun by LePage of Paris, a rare Springfield gas trap M1 Garand and a Gold Plated Merwin and Hulbert 44-40 retaliated by LePage.
